Brazil's telecoms regulator Anatel has ordered US mobile phone manufacturer Motorola (NYSE: MOT) to explain a recent explosion of two batteries in a mobile phone, reported local newspaper.

The batteries have been sent to the police and cannot be examined by the company, Motorola said in a statement.

Motorola has more than 30 handset models available in Brazil, and also produces them at a technology center at Jaguarina in So Paulo state.
