Mcafee Inc and SmartTrust have joined forces to develop a
solution that will allow mobile operators to deliver integrated mobile
virus protection to subscribers remotely around the clock.
The solution, based on McAfee's VirusScan Mobile package and
SmartTrust's SmartManage platform, allows mobile operators to
automatically detect vulnerable handsets on the network, and deliver
virus protection over-the-air immediately where necessary.
"With the growth of mobile virus threats and the burgeoning use of cell
phones, service providers are increasingly demanding proactive,
integrated solutions to protect their large subscriber bases," said
Larry McAnallen, McAfee's director of worldwide mobile sales and
business development.
"SmartManage and McAfee VirusScan Mobile together offer a simple,
seamless solution for all service providers to mitigate the threat of
damage due to mobile virus outbreaks," he said in a press statement.
Paul Cuss, chief executive officer of SmartTrust, said mobile threats
are more dangerous because virus writers have learned from their
experience in the PC environment.
"This means the most dangerous outbreaks will occur with little fanfare
but maximum damage," he said.
McAfee's VirusScan Mobile provides advanced scanning, detection and
cleaning of handheld data to prevent corruption due to viruses, worms,
dialers, trojans, battery-sapping malware and other malicious code.
Additionally, VirusScan Mobile also protects multiple entry points
including SMS (short message service), MMS (multimedia messaging
service) and Bluetooth, as well as securing devices against the threats
that originate from e-mail, instant messaging, and Internet downloads,
the company said.
